Geotags Pravasi Series - Lonavala Range of Forts seen westward from Ghoravadeshwar Caves hill
There are Ghoravadeshwar Caves adjacent to the Old Mumbai-Pune highway at Talegaon Dabhade. There are two paths leading to the cave from the highway. One is the main path, from where there are steps and the other is a little vertical climb small trek. I took another route to the caves. I had to go to the top of the hill and descend a little on the other side to the caves. From the highway, I reached a little higher by the other way and there was still some uphill to go. This photo was taken then. You will see the steps from the neighboring hill to the caves and the old Mumbai-Pune highway on the right. A row of forts could be seen far on the west side.
One of the twelve Mavals is Pawan Maval and there is a quartet of forts adjacent to the vast reservoir of the Pavna Dam in this Maval. They are Tikona Fort, Tung Fort, Lohgad and Visapur Fort. All these forts were visible from here. Apart from that, Morgiri Fort which is just behind Tung Fort was also recognizable. Heading towards Mumbai from Old Mumbai-Pune highway, one can reach Malvali. From there, the right path leads to Ekvira Aai Devasthan while the left path leads to Malvali station. Lohgad and Visapur Fort can be reached from Malvali station. From there you can approach the Pavana Dam and reach the Tikona Fort along the banks of the Dam. Tikona Peth is a base village. A peak beyond the dam from Tikona fort attracts our attention. That is Tung Fort. Tung Fort can be reached by going around the dam again. It can trek from Tungwadi village. From there one can also go to the nearby Morgiri Fort. One can trek to Morgiri fort from Jambhulane village.
From Lonavla also, one can reach Ghusulkhamb village and then head towards Morgiri fort. Before Ghusulkhamb village, there is Kurwande village. From there one can trek to Duke's Nose or Nagfani hill. Apart from that, you can also visit some nearby points like Bhushi Dam, Tiger Point, Lion Point, etc. Also, there are two routes from Ghusulkhamb village. The path on the right leads to Korigad Fort and the left leads to Morgiri and Tung Fort.
