Information Pravasi series - Morgiri Fort

Korigad Fort, Ghangad Fort, Tung Fort, Tikona Fort, Lohgad Fort, and Visapur Fort are all famous forts in the Lonavala area of the Pune district. Also along with these forts, there is a less-known fort called "Morgiri Fort". Given the location of the fort and its ruins, it must have been built for surveillance.

As the steps leading to Morgiri fort have been destroyed, an iron ladder has been installed at one place and a rope has been installed at two places for safety. Jambhulne village is a village at the base of the Morgiri fort. It takes about two hours to reach the fort from the village. The height of the fort is 3010 feet and due to the difficult climb in the last stage, the trek category of this fort is considered moderate to difficult.

Behind the village, on the right and left side, you can see the mountains connected to each other. From the pass between these two mountains, a paved path leads to the mountain on the left side. After 15 minutes of trekking up the mountain ridge through dense forest, we reach the plateau. The plateau is a long stretch. Further, on the plateau, a mountain can be seen on the left side. At the end of that mountain, the mountain with a cap-like structure is the "Morgiri Fort".

A saffron flag can be seen flying on top of the fort from the plateau. After half an hour's walk across the plateau, keeping the mountain on the left and the valley on the right, we come down to the base of Morgiri fort. From here onwards the path is steep. In the first stage, there is shade due to dense vegetation. After crossing this stage, we reach the fort's shear wall. There are some steps carved into the rock and a rope has been installed here for safety. After climbing up the stairs, there is a water tank right in front and another tank nearby. It has the Goddess Jakhmata Devi, a well-known shrine in Maval province. A ladder is installed near this tank. After climbing up the ladder, we reach the fort by climbing some steps carved into the rock. The top of the fort is small. The Saffron flag is planted on top of the fort and there are also some water tanks.

Korigad Fort can be seen from the fort to the south while Tung Fort is nearby to the east. The backwaters of Pavna Dam can be seen behind Tung Fort. Behind it, Tikona Fort can be seen in the east, and Lohgad and Visapur Fort can be seen a little to the north.
